The Council of Regional Coordinators have announced the following Regional Scholars for 2002:

Serge Frolov - Pacific Coast Region

Serge Frolov is Assistant Professor of Religious Studies and holder of the Nate and Ann Levine Endowed Chair in Jewish Studies at Southern Methodist University. Serge received an M.A. in Religion from Claremont Graduate University and is currently completing his dissertation on 1 Samuel 1-8 under the direction of Marvin Sweeney. He also holds an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Modern History from Leningrad University. His paper, entitled "Saul's (Quasi)-Biography and Its Literary Background: Synchronic and Diachronic Perspectives," was presented at the Pacific Coast Region SBL.

James A. Kelhoffer - Midwest Region

Nominated by the Midwest region, James A. Kelhoffer holds the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Chicago and B.A. and M.A. degrees from Wheaton College (IL) and is Assistant Professor of New Testament and Early Christian Literature at Saint Louis University. In the past, Dr. Kelhoffer has taught at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago, McCormick Theological Seminary, Saint Xavier University and North Park University. Jim's dissertation on Mark 16:9-20 was published as Miracle and Mission (2000) by Mohr Siebeck in Tubingen, Germany. Other works of his have appeared in Zeitschrift fur die neutestamentliche Wissenschaft, Biblical Research, Ex Auditu, Proceedings of the Eastern Great Lakes and Midwest Biblical Societies, the Reader's Guide to Judaism and the Eerdmans Dictionary of the Bible. His research interests include the New Testament Gospels and second-century Christianity. Jim is also the recipient of a Young Scholars Post-doctoral Fellowship for Spring 2003 from the Catholic Biblical Association.

Armin Siedlecki - Pacific Northwest Region



Armin Siedlecki is a doctoral student in Hebrew Bible at Emory University. Before coming to Emory University, he earned an M.A. in Religion and Culture from Wilfrid Laurier University (Waterloo, ON, Canada) and a B.A. in Religious Studies from the University of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon, SK, Canada). He has served as adjunct instructor for Emory University, Wilfrid Laurier University and the University of Saskatchewan and he was a visiting instructor at Drury University (Springfield, MO) from 1999 to 2000. He is currently working as catalog librarian for rare books at Pitts Theology Library, Emory University. His paper "The Empire Writes Back: Diplomatic Correspondence in Ezra 4-6" was presented at the Pacific-Northwest Regional SBL meeting in Edmonton, AB.

Diane Wudel - Southeastern Region

Diane Wudel is a doctoral student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She has a B.A. and M.A. in English literature from the University of Alberta, Canada and spent a number of years working as a writer, editor, and teacher of writing. Her fields of interest are literary theory, ancient and modern, and literary and rhetorical interpretation of early Christian texts. In Fall 2002 she moved to Wake Forest University as Assistant Professor of Biblical Studies in the Divinity School. The Southeastern Region of SBL nominated her as Regional Scholar.
