The 18th SBL International Meeting was held July 8-12, 2001, at the Pontifical Gregorian University and the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome, Italy. Over 400 persons from more than 30 countries attended this year's meeting, with 300 participants on the program in 75 sessions.

Highlights of the meeting included a workshop on the catacombs, led by Leonard Rutgers of the University of Utrecht, which took place in the San Priscilla Catacombs; and a workshop on and special tour of the Sistine Chapel, led by Zefirah Gitay, of the University of Cape Town.

Special thanks to Fr. Robert O'toole of the Pontifical Biblical Institute for his efforts to make this meeting a success.
