An article published in the Martin Marty Center's newsletter, Sightings, reports a controversy that was sparked by an ad placed in Christianity Today by the Evangelical and Ecumenical Women's Caucus to promote their 2004 Biennial Conference. Some conservative Christians have labeled the Caucus, which promotes gender equality within the church, home, and society, a "radical feminist group." After running the ad in the March issue of the magazine, the publisher rescinded it, indicating that allowing a feminist ad was a "mistake" that would "never happen again."

Speakers at the successful EEWC conference held in June included Phyllis Trible, a former SBL President.
