Life Insurance
The
death benefit of a life insurance policy can be paid to SBL as a charitable
gift. SBL can be named as the policy’s beneficiary, allowing the donor
flexibility for withdrawals or modifications during the life of the policy, or
policy ownership can be transferred to the Society at any time allowing for an
immediate charitable deduction to you as the donor. Life insurance gift options
include:
- Name the Society of
Biblical Literature the sole or partial beneficiary of your insurance policy, which
you continue to own and maintain.
- Transfer the current
ownership of your fully paid-up policy.
- Transfer the current
ownership of your policy to SBL, and make ongoing gifts that offset the
premiums SBL will pay to maintain the policy. SBL may also choose to surrender
the policy, and receive the cash value immediately.
By transferring ownership of your policy
to SBL, a tax deduction equal to the tax basis of the policy is also made
available to you as the donor.
