Metaphor in the Bible and Cognate Literature

Program Unit Type: Section
Accepting Papers? Yes

Call For Papers: The Metaphor Theory and the Hebrew Bible section invites proposals for three sessions in San Diego. Our first session consists of an open call for papers that address any issue pertaining to the study of biblical metaphors. Papers should engage some aspect of metaphor theory and may focus on themes from the Hebrew Bible, ancient Near Eastern literature, and/or the New Testament. The second session is a workshop for graduate students working on dissertations on metaphors in the Hebrew Bible, ANE literature, or New Testament. The session aims to provide an opportunity for students to showcase their work and receive feedback from more senior scholars in the field as well as from their fellow students. The third session consists of a panel discussion on three recent monographs that address metaphors in the book of Job. All proposals for our sessions should state the author's main thesis, the methodological approach followed, and the specific examples studied.
