The upcoming SBL Annual Meetings 2021 is fast approaching.  If you haven’t registered for the meeting yet, there is still time!  Go here for registration information. 

If you’ve already registered, here are a few reminders:

If you are attending the In-Person Meeting:

• Your name badge will be emailed to you to the email address located on your registration record in November. In an effort to cut down on personal contact at the SBL Annual Meeting, we are urging you to please print your badge before arrival to San Antonio.
• We will be closing our housing links on October 21.  If you still haven’t booked your housing yet, or need to make changes, please do before October 21. 
• Any cancellations or transfers need to be completed by October 21.  Please send your requests to annualmeeting@sbl-site.org.
• For any name badge or hotel changes, go to the registration link provided in your confirmation page.  Once you are on your confirmation page, select the Modify registration button located at the top of the page.
• The Book Exhibit Hall will include daily morning coffee breaks at 9:30 am, and a Marketplace will be open from 10:30 am – 2:30 pm offering sandwiches, salads, sodas, muffins, yogurt, candy and fruit.  The up-to-date list of exhibitors and floorplan will be located on the Annual Meeting Mobile App which will be available soon!
• For the most updated information on SBL’s Covid-19 protocols and information regarding testing sites, please go here. 

If you are attending Virtual Only Sessions

• We will be launching the online Virtual Meeting Planner and Annual Meetings Mobile App soon.  As soon as these are available, we will send instructions on how to use these to access virtual sessions.  Instructions will be sent to the email address located on your registration record.

Program books will be mailed in late October to those who selected to receive one.  We also urge you to visit our online program book, which lists both In-Person and Virtual Only Sessions.
Any cancellations or transfers of your registration need to be completed by October 21.  Please send your requests to annualmeeting@sbl-site.org.  For more information about the SBL Annual Meetings 2021 visit our website. 

Call for Nominations for Council and Committees of Council

The Nominating Committee will begin its work submitting names to Council to fill positions open January 2022. SBL Members are encouraged and invited to submit nominations. Members may nominate themselves. All nominees must be members in good standing of the SBL. The following committees will have positions open in 2022: SBL Council (Vice President), Educational Resources and Review Committee, International Cooperation Initiative Committee, Research and Publications Committee, Status of Women in the Profession Committee, and Underrepresented Racial and Ethnic Minorities in the Profession Committee. Nominations should include: a summary of the nominee’s participation in SBL; a statement describing the nominee’s interest in that particular group; and a copy of the nominee’s curriculum vitae. To submit a nomination, please email nominations@sbl-site.org.

The Nominating Committee reviews nominations and nominates to Council members of standing committees and representatives to other organizations as required. The Nominating Committee also nominates to the Society the President, Vice-President, and Council members. Elections for nominees are held at the Annual Business Meeting. (Program Committees nominate and vote on Program Unit Chairs and report to Nominating Committee and Council. The Research and Publications Committee nominates and votes on Book Series Editors and reports to Nominating Committee and Council. Members who attend the Business Meeting will receive a report of all votes by Council, Research and Publications, and Program Committee. • David Noel Freedman Award for Excellence and Creativity in Hebrew Bible Scholarship
• Paul J. Achtemeier Award for New Testament Scholarship

NCUR 2022 @home Abstract Submission Portal is Now Open!

The Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) welcomes abstracts for the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR). The early-bird deadline for abstracts for this interactive undergraduate conference is 20 October 2021. The final deadline for abstracts is 19 November 2021.

All are also welcome to attend the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR). NCUR will take place 4-8 April 2022. Registration will open the week of 15 November 2021. Learn more here.
