Kudos The British Academy has awarded the Burkitt Medal to Professor John J. Collins, who held the position of Holmes Professor of Old Testament Criticism and Interpretation at Yale Divinity School. The Burkitt Medal Committee voted unanimously to award this year’s prize to Professor Collins for his wide-ranging and distinguished contribution to Old Testament Studies and the study of Second Temple Judaism. Conceptual Metaphors in the Song of Songs
Brian P. Gault Song of Songs contains some of the most exquisite yet enigmatic poetry in the Hebrew Bible. One of the chief difficulties in interpreting the Song’s lyrics is the unusual imagery used to depict the lovers’ bodies. Why is the maiden's hair compared to a flock of goats (4:1), the man’s cheeks likened to garden beds of spice (5:13), and the eyes of both lovers described as doves (4:1; 5:12)? While scholars speculate on the significance of these images, a systematic inquiry into the Song’s body metaphors is curiously absent. Incorporating biblical and comparative data, this study seeks to uncover the meaning of these metaphors and explore their origins. Paperback • Hardcover • Kindle • Google Play Stories of Minjung Theology: The Theological Journey of Ahn Byung-Mu in His Own Words Ahn Byung-Mu This autobiography combines the personal story of Ahn Byung-Mu, one of the foremost Asian theologians, with the history of the Korean nation in light of the dramatic social, political, and cultural upheavals of the 1970s. It records the history of minjung (the people’s) theology that emerged in Asia, Ahu’s involvement in it, and his interpretations of major Christian doctrines such as God, sin, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit from the minjung perspective. The volume also contains an introductory essay that situates Ahn’s work in its context and discusses the place and purpose of minjung hermeneutics in a vastly different Korea.
