Marcus Borg 1942-2015
Marcus J. Borg, a scholar who popularized a liberal intellectual approach to Christianity with his lectures and books about Jesus as a historical figure, died on Wednesday at his home in Powell Butte, Ore. He was 72. His publisher, HarperOne, said the cause was idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

Annual Meeting Travel Grant
A change to the deadline schedule and application process for the Annual Meeting Travel Grants has been put in place to bring the process in line with dates for Annual Meeting paper acceptance dates.

Deadlines:
1 March 2015: Deadline – E-mail with Intention to submit and CV.
5 April 2015: Deadline – Application form and recommendation letter.
1 May 2015: Award decisions will be announced.

IM 2015 Call for Papers
The call for papers for the 2015 International Meeting in Buenos Aires, Argentina is available. The deadline for paper proposals is 11:59 PM (23:59) Eastern Standard Time (UTC -5) on Wednesday, February 11, 2015.

ACLS Public Fellows Competition

ACLS has opened the fifth annual Public Fellows competition. In 2015, the program will place 22 recent humanities PhDs in two-year positions at partnering nonprofits and government agencies, where the fellows will participate in the core work of these organizations while benefitting from professional mentoring and career development opportunities. Fellows receive a stipend of $65,000 per year, as well as individual health insurance and additional funds toward professional development.

Login with your member number and check to see when your membership and subscriptions are due to expire.

Begin the New Year by updating your member profile. Remember that if you fill out the member data form you are automatically entered in a drawing to win one of two iPads. You can see the results of last year’s snapshot here.

Is it time to renew your subscriptions with SBL? Remember as a member you always have access to the Journal of Biblical Literature and the Review of Biblical Literature on our website. You only need to subscribe if you want the paper editions to be sent to you. If you wish to receive the first issue of the Journal of Biblical Literature for 2015 you need to subscribe by February 15, 2015. Subscriptions for Review of Biblical Literature 2015 need to be received by September 15, 2015.

This conference is hosted by the British Association for Jewish Studies, in cooperation with the Centre for Jewish Studies and the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at the University of Manchester, and with the Institut für Jüdische Philosophie und Religion, Universität Hamburg.

The STRICT deadline for submitting an abstract is 5pm on Wednesday 1 April 2015.
