Begin the New Year by updating your member profile. Remember that if you fill out the member data form you are automatically entered in a drawing to win one of two iPads. You can see the results of last year’s snapshot here.

Is it time to renew your subscriptions with SBL? Remember as a member you always have access to the Journal of Biblical Literature and the Review of Biblical Literature on our website. You only need to subscribe if you want the paper editions to be sent to you. If you wish to receive the second issue of the Journal of Biblical Literature for 2015 you need to subscribe by May 15, 2015. Subscriptions for Review of Biblical Literature 2015 need to be received by September 15, 2015.

Annual Meeting Employment Center Drops Fees to Candidates

SBL and the American Academy of Religion have eliminated all Employment Center fees for candidates. Beginning in 2015, all active members of the American Academy of Religion or the Society of Biblical Literature who have registered for the Annual Meeting will be able to register as candidates with the Employment Center free of charge. Registered candidates will continue to be able to post their CVs on the Employment Services website for employer review and will receive an onsite edition of Employment Listings at the Annual Meetings. This decision reflects our concern to reduce the cost of interviewing onsite and to make conference attendance more affordable for our members.

Agade Mailing List Now Available on SBL Website

Jack M. Sasson, the Mary Jane Werthan Professor of Judaic and Biblical Studies at Vanderbilt University, has been collecting and distributing the Agade Mailing List for almost two decades, dating back to his position at The University of North Carolina, which still hosts the email distribution list. The Agade list forwards news and information of interest to scholars in biblical studies, Near Eastern studies, late antiquity, Judaica, classics, and archaeology, with items, too, in broad intellectual history and even popular culture. It is a valuable source of announcements, and these many guilds are in debt to Professor Sasson.

With many thanks to Jack for his permission, SBL will import the emails as they are sent as well as archive by week, month and year. SBL will not supplement, eliminate, or otherwise emend the number or content of the announcements, and presents them in the order of their delivery.
