In 2004, the Society of Biblical Literature entered a licensing agreement with Living with Scriptures Publishers in Seoul Korea for the Korean language rights to Raymond R. Person, Jr.'s The Deuteronomic School: History, Social Setting, and Literature (SBL 2002). SBL is pleased to announce that the translation has been completed. The published book was released in December 2005. The translation was commissioned by Living with Scripture Publishers, which markets academic books in Korea and is managed by Roman Catholic Sisters (SOLPH). SBL member Yoon Jong Yoo of Pyongtaek University reviewed the translation on behalf of SBL before it went to press.

The translation of the Person volume is the first of what SBL hopes will be a growing trend in making scholarship published by the SBL available in other languages around the world. There is also a movement underway to make scholarship available in under-resourced countries at affordable prices through the use of digital technology. Under this plan, SBL will partner with local publishers to have books published overseas, thus avoiding steep import and shipping charges. This global initiative is being pursued by the publications department of SBL with the help and encouragement of members who have taken a special interest in fostering biblical scholarship worldwide.
