Each year, SBL/AAR Employment Information Services (EIS) collects data about candidates and job openings in biblical and religious studies. This year, EIS has added to these efforts by distributing an anonymous survey to gather demographic information and track hiring trends.

The 2003-2004 statistics show the ratio of job openings to candidates for each teaching field, revealing the most (and least) competitive areas. The statistics also indicate the ratio of women to men using the employment service.

Recently, all EIS registered candidates received an email containing a link to the employment survey. The survey was created to monitor the fairness of EIS policies and to determine how recent hiring trends affect diversity within the profession. Findings will be released later this year.

Thanks to all who have already completed the survey. If you have any questions about EIS, please contact Shelly Roberts (sroberts@aarweb.org) or Joel LeMon (jmlemon@sbl-site.org).
