John C. Meagher, Professor Emeritus of English and Religion at the University of Toronto (St. Michael's College) and the Toronto School of Theology, died on August 25, 2003, at the age of 68. Well known MLA circles as a Shakespeare scholar, Meagher also earned the PhD in religion at McMaster, writing some five works in the areas of New Testament theology and Christian origins. A former SBL member and AAR president, Meagher was a Killam research fellow and the recipient of a Folger Shakespeare Library research grant. His last published work returned to a long-standing interest in the circumstances of Shakespearean dramatic performance.
